Geithner is right, Republicans wrong - again

Letting tax cuts for wealthy Americans expire is the only one responsible decision in the times of record budget deficit. Republicans opposing this decision of Timothy Geithner are just irresponsible.

The announcement of Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner that Obama administration will push for letting tax cuts for wealthy Americans expire and extend them for the rest of the nation is welcomed news for all responsible Americans. In times of a record budget deficit, it is not to understand how Republicans like Newt Gingrich can oppose any tax cuts, when saying: "The safest thing for America would be to have a provision passed this fall that said no tax increase of any kind in 2011."

The move proposed by Geithner would raise taxes for families earning more than 250 000 USD a year. To have more than 20 grands for a month is unimaginable luxury for majority of Americans struggling to pay for daily bread or monthly rent. Not raising the taxes for the lucky few would mean to force the majority into poverty. Not getting additional funds in the state budget would mean to cut the few social, health and educational services the state is providing in US for the people not able to pay for them. Or it would mean that state would have to borrow additional money in order to be able to pay for them and to raise the budget deficit.

Any of these two solutions would be irresponsible. It is time to correct the economic disaster created by the Bush presidency, who as the first president in history began two wars while cutting taxes- especially the taxes for people who have enough money to pay them.
