HIV/AIDS is DC's Katrina, the number of HIV/ AIDS infection in D.C. is comparable to Uganda or some parts of Kenya, DC's HIV/Aids rate at 3%, or about 15,100 adults is higher than in West Africa.

There is no doubt that these are the unpopular figures and there is no doubt that "something" needs to be done. Hopefully, "something" is done. The U.S. capitol city will become the first US city where the female condoms will be available for free. They will be give out in such a typical places for women such as in beauty salons, convenience stores and high schools in areas with high rates of infection. For free! The reason, why the female condoms were not so popular, was the price. Many women, especially from the lower social groups, which is actually also a group where the HIV/AIDS is spreading faster, were complaining that the female condoms cost so much. Now, while the HIV/Aids infection is the leading cause of death for black women aged 25-34,they will have the possibility to take care of themselves and take protect themselves.

The so called HIV/ AIDS " ABC" - Abstinence, Be faithful, Condomize, is the first step to win the battle with the AIDS pandemic, therefore there is a hope that this model will help also the DC residents living in the high risk areas. Launching such action has also other positive sign. It is believed that it will melt down the prejudices. And if it is for women difficult to convince the men to use the preservative they should act responsibly, now they will have all the possibilities. And melting down the prejudice is also challenge. Because while women, but also men have prejudices and not using any protection, AIDS is winning its fight. Killing more and more people.
