Carefully with that publicity

World Business Press Online, LONDON -

The equality bill is only the first step to make the British National Party's life unbearable. After it is passed, and the BNP will have to accept also non-white members (or be banned), the party support among the most radical fascist will go down. A current apartheid constitution is what appeals to them most. Besides, the far right voters did not multiply themselves; it is only that the Labour electorate stayed home, disgusted by the expenses affair. That is why Brons and Griffin were elected as MEPs on shocking Sunday. If a BNP spokesman implies that the equality bill is reflection of government's effort to shut them down, he is correct and one can only ask how come that, in democracy, the apartheid constitution of one of the ,,legitimate,, parties was not addressed sooner, perhaps before the EP elections. Hovewer, Britons don't have to feel extraordinary ashamed. Just look at a regular support for the French National Front or the Dutch Party for Freedom. If the right legislative answer is adopted, the BNP will be marginalised again. What seems to be a little problem is media coverage. Should journalists ignore the BNP completely so that the people forget about their existence? Or, now, when they have two MEPs anyway, would it be cleverer to expose their low fascist instinct and desire for racial purity to the public? Since the opposite side of the British society is outraged enough to take even direct action against the BNP leaders now, the second option seems harder to avoid.
